WCIT 2008 Volunteer Terms and Conditions
Definition
Volunteers refer to persons seeking, on their own free will, to provide their services for no financial payment. Volunteers are subject to verification by reference checks done by WCIT 2008 Sdn Bhd in order to protect the security of its guests during the congress week. In all circumstances, it is imperative that:
- Volunteers know what is expected of them,
- Volunteers do not accept any other work during the time they are required to work for WCIT 2008
- Volunteers are not exploited in any way for individual gain.
Attitude
As a volunteer, you are expected to have a pleasant personality and act with courtesy, patience and respect at all times. You should also have a positive outlook, be energetic, flexible and be willing to serve with a smile.
Age
You must be at least 18 years of age to be considered for a volunteer position at WCIT 2008.
Volunteer Contract
Volunteers involved in WCIT 2008 must reside in Malaysia (preferably in the Klang Valley) and understand that transportation and accommodation will not be provided by the event organizer.
Volunteer duties are applicable before, during and after the WCIT 2008 event. You will be notified of the shifts (working hours) that you will be required to complete. You will also be notified as to who you will report to (team leaders). You will be required to attend all scheduled trainings and briefings. You will be informed of the location and time of the training(s) and briefing(s) well in advance.
Consumption of alcohol or drugs will not be tolerated under any circumstance during the period of your deployment.
Dress Code
As a volunteer you will receive a uniform and identification name tag which will have to be used at all times during your work shift. Your uniform and identification name tag are not transferable and if lost or broken will not be replaced. You will be responsible for the maintenance, cleanliness and laundry of your own uniform.
Black shoes must be worn at all times on site, whilst on duty. Sandals are not appropriate footwear and will not be allowed. You are to wear your uniform with plain black pants and black shoes during your work shift.
Occupational Health and Safety
We take pride in observing high standards of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) throughout the event. We endeavor to provide you with the safest working conditions possible. As a member of the volunteer team, we ask you to comply with all safety requirements associated with your volunteer position and support the OHS procedures. Please follow the Volunteer Coordinator’s instructions with respect to OHS at all times.
Dismissal
No volunteer will be dismissed until the volunteer has been given the opportunity to discuss the reasons for dismissal with the Volunteer Coordinator. Possible grounds for dismissal include but are not limited to the following:
• Being under the influence of alcohol or drugs before or during your shift.
• Theft.
• Insubordination, abuse or mistreatment of VIPs, speakers, delegates, staff, visitors, guests and other volunteers or the WCIT 2008 management.
• Failure to abide by WCIT 2008 policies & procedures.
• Failure to complete your shift as directed by the Volunteer Coordinator.
• Not being punctual and/or disappearing whilst on duty.
Use of WCIT 2008 Trademark
Volunteers may not use the WCIT 2008 name or logo, website content, written agreement or any material and publication that carry WCIT 2008 in any way without the written permission of WCIT 2008 Sdn Bhd.
